24 And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;
(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 93:24)
I think this definition of truth is simple, yet expansive and profound. It encompasses every aspect of existence . When God looks at us he sees "the truth" because not only does he see the past and present but he also knows our future. Isolating our knowledge of a person or event to just the present cannot be complete truth because we are not taking into account all that has contributed to the situation. On the other hand, focusing only on a person's past and not allowing for the present is also not "the truth." And, if we are unwilling to believe that a person can change in the future we are also denying part of truth. If we are to truly discern "the truth" we need more than our own human abilities.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
(Book of Mormon | Moroni 10:5)
