Charity....

"...don’t be limited in your views with regard to your neighbor’s virtue, but beware of self-righteousness, and be limited in the estimate of your own virtues, and not think yourselves more righteous than others;"

“When persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what power it has over my mind, while the opposite course has a tendency to harrow up all the harsh feelings and depress the human mind."

“Love is one of the chief characteristics of Deity, and ought to be manifested by those who aspire to be the sons of God. A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.”

First Annual Frey Cousins Reunion

I've rarely seen my Frey cousins throughout my life.  Wed. night that changed and we held our first annual Frey Cousins Reunion at Lenore Robbins home in Bountiful.  Five cousins (and varying degrees of their own family members) attended along with my Dad.   It was an awesome evening for me.  My sister Sandra and I drove up to Centerville, Utah with my Dad.   There were three cousins there from my Dad's sister's Caroline's family along with their spouses (who were awesome by the way) and a few of their children. (Also awesome!)

My Dad, Lloyd Frey shares memories with the younger generation.

Clockwise around the table is me, Dearwyn (sadly you can't really see her) Lenore (standing) Christian Rasmussen (Craig's son), Craig Rasmussen, my sister Sandra and my Dad.  The spouses and others sat at another table to give the cousins a chance to catch up.  My cousins are fabulous people.  It was very fun and enlightening comparing commonalities.

Is There Hope For American Marriage?

From Time Magazine:

Here's a quote or two but really you should read the whole thing!

"In the past 40 years, the face of the American family has changed profoundly. As sociologist Andrew J. Cherlin observes in a landmark new book called The Marriage-Go-Round: The State of Marriage and the Family in America Today, what is significant about contemporary American families, compared with those of other nations, is their combination of "frequent marriage, frequent divorce" and the high number of "short-term co-habiting relationships." Taken together, these forces "create a great turbulence in American family life, a family flux, a coming and going of partners on a scale seen nowhere else. There are more partners in the personal lives of Americans than in the lives of people of any other Western country."

"How much does this matter? More than words can say. There is no other single force causing as much measurable hardship and human misery in this country as the collapse of marriage. It hurts children, it reduces mothers' financial security, and it has landed with particular devastation on those who can bear it least: the nation's underclass."

A visit to the principal...

The previous post brought back a Junior High memory for me. I do remember a visit to the principles office in 7th grade. I can't remember what we had done, but he lined us all up (about six of us) and took his paddle down off the wall where it always hung as a disciplinary threat and gave us all a spat on the backside. I can remember feeling chagrined, a bit humiliated but standing there with my face to the wall and giggling my head off.

Belated but none-the-less proud...

Cameron received a Student of the Year Award in Foreign Language at the Junior High Assembly the end of May. (He took German.) This is a little late due to many things but here goes:

Cameron and the principal - Better here than in his office!

Congrats Cameron! That's Grandpa and I on the right and the left but the picture aesthetics deteriorated outside the central subject matter.
